As a not-for-profit organisation which does, through its membership and dig meetings, raise cash we choose to divide funds surplus to the club's regular running between a small number of charities. In recent years we have supported the Thames Valley Ambulance and Care for Casualties.
Our relationships with the farming and landowner community are important to the hobby we pursue. We have chosen to support them in their own activities. Since 2016 we have supported the Royal East Berkshire Agriculture Association (REBAA) at their annual Ploughing Match. Funds from our digs have been pledged each year to this farming group.
At the end of 2019 we got a call from a local farmer representing REBAA to say they were planning a Tractor Run through East Berkshire culminating in over 100 tractors lined up on the Long Walk outside Windsor Castle. Their request was for Maidenhead Search Society to provide marshals and help with logistics. The event was in aid of Thames Hospice and we were delighted to help.
In conversation with the head at his children's school, one of our members mentioned Maidenhead Search Society and the types of things we find. As the students were studying the medieval period we were asked if we could provide some real items to bring this to life.
This soon expanded to 3 separate school visits with a hands-on detecting experience for the students, a quiz identifying items and some lively discussions!
Over the years our members have been called up on to find many lost keys, rings and metal items lost by members of the public. Our success rate is in the high 90% so if you need us -
