About Us
Founded in 1973 Maidenhead Search Society is one of the oldest metal detecting clubs in the UK. With a keen focus on history, the founder members envisaged a club with a small membership which maintained the highest standards in its dealings with landowners and the archaeological community.
Maintaining that initial set of values Maidenhead Search Society has continued to develop strong relationships with the farming community and landowners across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Surrey and Oxfordshire. Numerous finds of note have been made and all significant finds are recorded for the landowner and with the Portable Antiquities scheme.
Whilst as a club we generate income from membership and dig fees, we are a not-for-profit organisation and so each year we donate funds surplus to maintaining the club to a range of local and national charities. More on this in the Community section.
